Day trip to Cirey sur Blaise and Combey-les-deux-Eglises

We visited Voltaire's castle. We saw many hog's heads on the walls of the hall because Voltaire and the owners of the castle enjoyed hunting! We visited the kitchen, the attic, the Marquises' room. The owners of the castle told us about Voltaire's life during the 15 years he spent in Cirey-sur-Blaise. We found it surprising not to see Voltaire's room. The landscape was beautiful with a river, the woods and the hills.

After, we visited Charles de gaulle's Memorial where we learnt about his life during both World wars, his family life and his career. We learnt interesting facts such as Charles de Gaulle's war tactics being "stolen" by the Germans, and all the countries he visited while he was at the head of France.

It was a very interesting visit. In addition this cultural trip overlapped our school program, which enabled us to draw connections we would not have beenable to appreciate otherwise.
